My mother likes to travel, which is not something she can normally afford to do. But she’s found a   21   to earn extra money so she can go wherever she wants.

She   22   at garage sales(旧货市场) with my aunt. They each have   23   things they know a lot about, so they go from garage sale to garage sale, searching for   24   treasures. They buy them, take them home, and sell them on eBay. It’s   25  , but it works. Here’s an example. Recently, my mom bought a perfume bottle for 10 dollars and she   26   it on eBay for $150.

That happens all of the time. My aunt once   27   a nice set of luggage marked at $100. She knew it was worth more,   28   she bought it. Later she earned $300!

29   a lot of people do this, and some are even   30  . They even have quarrels sometimes. They know one thing really well, and they   31   at garage sales until they find it. Some of these people are just   32  , but others are like my mom, who will just turn around and sell the stuff for a   33   on eBay. She’ll read about a(n)   34   in the paper, and she’ll be there early, trying to get the best deals.

My mom not only   35   a lot of money from garage sales, but she also has fun. So far, she has   36   to Turkey, Costa Rica and Switzerland.

If you do it just for the money, there’s a good chance you won’t   40   with it because you’ll discover you don’t like it. No one can go far without passion.

第三节:阅读理解(共10小题;每小题2分,满分 20分)

A

A person’s nose is important for breathing and smelling. The nose is also used in many popular expressions.

Some people can lead other people by the nose. For example, if a wife leads her husband by the nose, she makes him do whatever she wants him to do.

Some people are said to be hard-nosed. They will not change their opinions or positions on anything. If someone is hard-nosed, he will never pay through the nose, or pay too much money, for an object or service.

It is always helpful when people keep their nose out of other people’s business. They do not interfere. The opposite of this is someone who noses around all the time. This kind of person is interested in other people’s private matters. He is considered nosey.

More problems can develop if a person looks down his nose at someone or something. The person acts like something is unimportant or worthless. This person might also turn up his nose at something that he considers not good enough. This person thinks he is better than everyone else. He has his nose in the air.

In school, some students thumb their nose at their teacher. They refuse to obey orders or do any work. Maybe these students do not know the correct answers. My mother always told me, if you study hard, the answers should be right under your nose or easily seen.

I think we have explained the nose expressions. What about ears? Well, I hope you are all ears or very interested in hearing more expressions. We might even put a bug in your ear or give you an idea about something. We also advise you to keep your ear to the ground. This means to be interested in what is happening around you and what people are thinking.

If you are a good person, you will lend an ear to your friends. You will listen to them when they have a problem they need to talk about.
